Rocco Digirolamo Announces Re-Election to Board of Assessors
Dear Canton Residents, I would like to announce to that I will be seeking re-election to Board of Assessors in the April 2024 town election. It has been my honor to serve in this position over the past 25 years and I have always kept the citizens of Canton as my top priority in every aspect of the role and responsibilities.
The 2024/2025 tax rate that my fellow assessors and I set for residential homes is 9.97 per thousand which is the lowest in 15 years. It has always been important to me to work to provide both residents and business owners with fair property valuations and to be a caring listener when they question their property value or request an abatement for personal hardship reasons. As a member of the Board of Assessors I support the Senior Resident Work program that we sponsor to provide our Canton Seniors up to a $1000 tax credit for working at various municipal jobs at Town Hall. We also work closely with the Finance Department to help ensure Canton maintains stable tax revenue in support of our AAA Bond Rating.
In addition, I have worked with my fellow assessors to support new business development with targeted tax abatements in collaboration with the MA Office of Business Development, Canton Select Board, Finance Committee and Town Meeting generating over $5 million dollars of new commercial/industrial tax revenue for our town which supports our Municipal Services and Schools as well as helps to bolster our reserve funds.
The Assessor’s Office is audited regularly by the MA Department of Revenue, and we have received a commendable score in our town wide property valuation management. As past Chairman I have worked closely with the Finance Department to review annual new growth, ensure valuations are accurate and recommend to the Select Board new residential and commercial tax rate for our town. Canton is consistently below the tax rate in comparison with other Norfolk County communities. We always have been on time in submitting our tax rates to the MA Department of Revenue to help ensure that our Finance Department’s quarterly tax collection can proceed on schedule and tax funds are available for all town departments.
I am a US Army veteran, 1st Lieutenant, Vietnam War Era.
I have been a Canton resident and homeowner on Mechanic Street for over 50 years with my wife Betty and have 2 children and four grandchildren. I have participated in many community organizations such as the American Legion Post 24 where I am still a Board Member, Canton Lions Club King Lion, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Council 2095, Canton Veterans Organization, Canton Little League Former President, and a member of St John’s Parish. I am a Graduate of Canton High School and Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Insurance.
I take great pride in serving in this role and ask for your vote to re-elect me to the Canton Board of Assessors Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.
